What background was most represented in Canton Public School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

Black students made up 84.9% of the 3,071 students enrolled in Canton Public School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 4.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Canton Public High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 535 students.

A snapshot of Canton Public School District schools showed 84.9% of students were Black and 9.8% Hispanic.

Canton Public School District roughly covers eight schools within Madison County and has a main office in Canton.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
