What background was most represented in Smith County School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

White students made up 68% of the 2,475 students enrolled in Smith County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 0.8% increase over the previous school year.

Mize Attendance Center had the highest enrollment in the district with 793 students.

A snapshot of Smith County School District schools showed 68% of students were white, 28.7% were Black, and 1.4% multiracial.

Smith County School District roughly covers four schools within Smith County and has a main office in Mize.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
