Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Leake County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 61.7% of the 2,577 students enrolled in Leake County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.5% decrease from the previous school year.

Leake Central Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 890 students.

A snapshot of Leake County School District schools showed 61.7% of students were Black, 18.9% were white, 15.5% were Hispanic, and 2% multiracial.

Leake County School District roughly covers five schools within Leake County and has a main office in Carthage.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
