Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black or African American highest represented background in Simpson County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 3,167 students enrolled in Simpson County schools in 2020-2021, 51.2% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Simpson County students.

This is a 1.3% increase over the previous school year.

Magee Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Simpson County schools showed 51.2% students were Black or African American, 44.9% were White, 0.8% were Two or More Races and 0.6% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are seven schools in Simpson County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
