Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Leake County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 2,618 students enrolled in Leake County schools in 2020-2021, 62.3% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Leake County students.

This is a 1.6% increase over the previous school year.

Leake Central Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Leake County schools showed 62.3% students were Black or African American, 19.4% were White, 14.6% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.1% were Two or More Races.

There are five schools in Leake County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
