2020-2021: What were the backgrounds of Scott County students?

Of the 5,395 students enrolled in Scott County schools in 2020-2021, 38.7% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Scott County students.

This is a 0.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Scott Central Attendance Center had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Scott County schools showed 38.7% students were Black or African American, 34.8% were White, 21.2% were Hispanic or Latino and 1.9% were Two or More Races.

There are 11 schools in Scott County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
