Sanders Selected As MACCC Coach of the Year

Co-Lin Men's Basketball head coach David Sanders was named the Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference on Thursday, March 9.

Sanders team went on an unprecedented run, winning 11 straight games, during MACCC play to clinch the first MACCC Conference Championship at Co-Lin since the 1998-99 regular season. The Wolves opened the 2022-23 season with back-to-back losses on the road, with one coming against the preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Northwest Florida State, then rattled off five straight wins before dropping a game on the road at LSU-Eunice. The Wolves then bounced back with a win against Baton Rouge in their final non-conference matchup before the winter break.

The Wolves then started MACCC play with a hard-fought 88-84 win at home over rival Southwest then lost back-to-back games on the road at East Mississippi, 71-62, and in triple overtime at Holmes, 90-83. However, that would be the last loss the Wolves had in the regular season as their 11-game winning streak started with a 76-74 road win at Jones and ended with the regular season finale, a 70-58 road win over Meridian. The Wolves had an average margin of victory of 9.2 points per game during their winning streak which also featured multiple double-digit wins including a 20-point second half turnaround at home against East Central where the Wolves won 100-83 and a 20-point win, 90-70, on the road at Coahoma.

The Wolves also racked up on MACCC postseason awards as four members were selected as All-Conference honorees with forwards Dylan Canoville and AJ Warnsley taking First Team All-MACCC honors while guards Jemario Hersey and Cowandric Samuel were named Second Team All-MACCC selections. Canoville also earned the Wolves a clean sweep of the postseason MACCC awards as he was named both Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year while Canoville also earned MACCC Player of the Week honors four times during the season.

Co-Lin finished the season with an overall record of 18-6, 12-2 overall and made it to the Second Round of the Region 23 Men's Basketball Tournament.
