Tougaloo ESports Student Participant Wins $1,000 Scholarship in NBA 2K Tournament at Black College Con Hosted by the Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA) and Jackson State University

The Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA) Founder, Keisha Walker, was quoted by Sarafina Wright of the Washington Infomer as saying, “73 percent of African Americans ages 13 years or older identify themselves as gamers. Yet, only 3 percent of those working in the gaming industry are Black and a mere 1 percent are professional gamers. Those numbers just don’t add up.”

The Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA) is a multi-faceted organization offering networking opportunities, ESports tournaments, scholarships, incentives, and support to HBCUs wanting to invest in assisting their students with pursuing careers in the gaming industry.

This past Saturday (February 25, 2023), Tougaloo ESports was invited by Jackson State University ESports to participate in Black College Con to network and compete. Black College Con serves as an engaging and educational summit focusing on game technology, career networking, and video game competitions. This is hosted by the BCGA. Lacy Johnson, a current Health and Recreation Major at Tougaloo, competed and won the championship for NBA 2K on Playstation 4 at Black College Con. Lacy made Tougaloo proud by earning the $1,000 scholarship prize as champion!
