Lady Wolves Fall to Lady Eagles
The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC action hosting Meridian on Thursday, February 16. The Lady Eagles beat the Lady Wolves, 66-59.
The Lady Eagles used an early 9-4 scoring run over the opening minutes of the first quarter to hold a lead by that margin with 5:05 left to play. The Lady Eagles closed out the quarter on an 8-4 scoring run to extend their lead over the Lady Wolves to 17-8 at the end of play.
The Lady Wolves opened the second quarter with an 8-7 scoring run to cut down the Lady Eagles lead to 24-16 with 5:17 left in the first half. The teams closed out the first half matching scoring outputs at 10 points apiece while the Lady Eagles lead held at eight points, 36-24, as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Lady Wolves came storming out of the gates to start the third quarter and used a 13-2 scoring run to cut the Lady Eagles lead down to one point, 38-37, with 5:26 left in the quarter. The Lady Wolves then used a 7-4 scoring run to take their first lead of the game at 44-42 with 2:05 remaining in the quarter. However, the Lady Eagles closed out the quarter with six unanswered points to hold a 48-44 lead at the end of play.
In the fourth and final quarter of play, the Lady Wolves got within one point of the Lady Eagles lead but could never retake it as the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Wolves, 18-15 to secure the 66-59 win.
The Lady Wolves were led offensively by sophomore guard Leilani Lewis (Baton Rouge, La.) who narrowly missed a double-double performance with 18 points and seven rebounds along with three assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Zykeria Anderson (Edwards) had 15 points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Sophomore guard Tandria Minor (Brandon) had eight points with three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore forwards Jamey McDaniel (Summit) and Kiersten Ball (Louisville) had seven and five points respectively while sophomore guard Ayanna McNairy (Brookhaven) had four points. Freshman forward Ceara Myers (Baton Rouge, La.) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 16-7 overall, 6-6 in conference play and will return to action with their final regular season road game at Gulf Coast on Tuesday, February 21. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m., at Dantzler Arena in Perkinston.
