White had the largest percent of student body in Smith County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 2,616 students enrolled in Smith County schools in 2019-2020, 69.2% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Smith County students.

This is a 0.8% increase over the previous school year.

Mize Attendance Center had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Smith County schools showed 69.2% students were White, 28.1% were Black or African American and 1.3% were Two or More Races.

There are four schools in Smith County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
