The Madison County Board of Supervisors Meeting, March 7, 2022: Quick Notes
• The Madison County Board of Supervisors, (the Board), announced that the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS), has selected Madison County to share in $166 million dollars that will be used to prevent flooding on Upper Bear Creek. High water volumes from this creek are responsible for most of the major flooding in Canton and other areas of Madison County.
• The Board passed a resolution requesting technical assistance from the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District to help secure funding through a Community Development Block Grant.
• Engineering companies provided updates on Bozeman Road and Reunion phases two and three.
MSEG: Reunion 2: (Bozeman Road across I-55 to Parkway East)
The project remains on schedule and the design has been completed. The design of the bridge component will go to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) in May for final review.
Stantec: Reunion 3: (Parkway East to Highway 51)
The project remains on schedule. The design has been completed and they are currently working with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to secure the remaining permits. A contractor is expected to be named in August.
Neel Schaffer: Bozeman Road (Hwy 463 to Reunion Boulevard)
The project remains on schedule. They are currently working through the assessment phase regarding wetlands. A contractor is expected to be named in October.
• The Board approved a resolution requesting that MDOT activate the Yandell Road Improvement project which will widen Yandell Road from Westfalen Drive to Madison Crossing Elementary School.
• The Board approved the final plat of Expedition Point, Phase 1, pending approval by PRVWSD. The development contains seventy lots on 47.79 acres.
• The Board approved a plat amendment to split lots 1 and 2 in Charlton Place, Phase 1.
• The Board provided the American Red Cross of Central Mississippi with $5,000 for their efforts in Madison County. From July 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022, the American Red Cross provided $16,610 in direct disaster assistance, serving a total of ninety-two individuals in Madison County. Disaster Services expenditures are broken down as follows: food, clothing, lodging, medications and disaster-related health care, referrals to community partners and government resources, and other essential items that can be used immediately during recovery.
• The Board acknowledged a letter from the South Madison County Fire Protection District requesting a 2-mill increase in the property tax that supports the district.
• The Board acknowledged a letter from the Mayor of Gluckstadt supporting the millage increase request by the South Madison County Fire Protection District.
• The Board approved applying for a RAISE grant through the United States Department of Transportation for the Reunion Interchange.
• The Board approved hiring Dale Partners Architects to design a new fire station at the MegaSite.
The Madison County Board of Supervisors will meet again on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in the Administrative Building in Canton.
