Jackson State edges UNC Asheville 6-5; Darius Dampier pitches in NCAA Division I baseball win

Former Mendenhall High School standout Darius Dampier and the Jackson State Tigers secured a 6-5 victory over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in their NCAA Division I baseball game held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 1.

Braddy Field served as the venue for the tightly contested game, marking the third meeting this season between the teams. The Tigers were defeated 7-1 by the Bulldogs in their previous matchup, which took place Saturday, Feb. 28.

Dampier took the mound for 1.1 innings, tallying one strikeout.

The Tigers are set to play their next game Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field at Privateer Park against the New Orleans Privateers.
