Congressman Michael Guest, who represents Mississippi’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account addressing the ongoing government shutdown, Democratic policy priorities, and support for military personnel.
On October 14, 2025, Guest wrote, “I think much of the shutdown is being driven by Chuck Schumer and his fear of a very popular Democratic member in his district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was threatening to run against Chuck Schumer for his U.S. Senate seat.” The post points to internal Democratic Party dynamics as a factor in the government shutdown.
Minutes later, Guest questioned Democratic spending priorities, posting, “If extending the ACA subsidies is a program and a hill worth dying on for the Democrats, tell me what programs you’re willing to cut to make room for that.” The statement highlights ongoing debates over federal budget allocations and healthcare funding.
On October 15, 2025, Guest expressed gratitude toward the President for supporting military personnel during the shutdown. He stated, “I have said repeatedly that our troops should never be used as pawns during a government shutdown. Thank you, Mr. President, for standing with our military.”
Guest has represented Mississippi’s 3rd district in Congress since 2019, succeeding Gregg Harper. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey in 1970, Guest resides in Brandon and holds degrees from Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi.
